Young Ringer's October outing

Click for poster (pdf).

Our October half term outing will consist of a visit to a Falconry Centre at Millets Farm near Frilford, followed by a walk to Marcham Church (just under two miles). At the church we will all have a ploughman's lunch followed by some fun ringing. We think everyone will enjoy watching the falcons' antics and will work up a good appetite for the lunch.

We will be charging a bit more than usual, £10, to cover the whole event. And we'll be charging adults as well as young people if they wish to join us. It will be more important than usual that we know who is coming so that we can make sure we have the right amount of food. Please let us know whether or not you are coming and how many lunches your party will need by Sunday 23rd October.

Adults will be most welcome to join us for the Falconry display, even if they decide not to come to Marcham Church with us (we will ask those adults for only £5 per adult). By arranging our party into "families" we can slightly reduce the entrance fees for all of us.

Branch 6 bell striking competition 2016

The 6-bell striking competition preceded the Annual General Meeting on 19th March 2016. Ian Judd of Goring judged the competition and gave the results, saying that he had very much enjoyed himself at North Moreton. He also said that he thought the bells were now outstanding and a vast improvement on his previous visit more than thirty years ago. He thought that all the entrants had done extremely well, and certainly better than any of the towers in the Branch that had not entered.

The results were as follows:

  1. Abingdon (40 faults)
  2. Blewbury (53 faults)
  3. Harwell (71 faults)
  4. North Moreton (75 faults)
  5. Youth team (87 faults).

The Abingdon ringers were invited to represent the Branch in the Guild 6-bell striking competition on 3rd October in the EBSB Branch.
